Assembly Procedure

- Screw the pitman shaft (4) to the side cover (8) until it fully seats to the side cover (8).
- Install the adjuster lock nut (10). Do not tighten the adjuster lock nut (1) until the pitman shaft adjustment is completed.
- Install the pitman shaft assembly (4) and the side cover (8) to the steering gear housing (7).CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts (2) to 60 N.m (45 lb ft).
- Install the lock washer (2).
- Install the nut (3).
- If necessary, adjust the pitman shaft. Refer to Pitman Shaft Over-Center Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle (700 Gear) to adjust the pitman shaft.
