Rear Disc Brake Backing Plate: Installation

  1. Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange. Install the backing plate nuts and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Install the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOE  .
  3. For the 15 and 25 series, perform the following steps:
    1. Install the axle shaft. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
    2. Install the rotor. See BRAKE ROTORS  .
  4. For the 35 series with single rear wheels, perform the following steps:
    1. Install the hub assembly. See appropriate WHEEL/HUB REPLACEMENT in REAR SUSPENSION article.
    2. Install the rotor. See BRAKE ROTORS  .
  5. For the 35 series with dual rear wheels, install the hub and rotor assembly. See appropriate WHEEL/HUB REPLACEMENT in REAR SUSPENSION article.
  6. Adjust the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  in PARK BRAKE SYSTEM under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  7. Install the park brake cable to the lever. See Figure . Perform the following procedure to install the cable to the backing plate:
    1. Compress the spring by pushing towards the lever. See Figure .
    2. Route the cable through the slot in the backing plate. See Figure .
    3. Push the cable housing into the backing plate until the locking tabs snap into place.
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Remove the safety stands. Lower vehicle.
  9. Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. See PARK BRAKE CABLE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
