Brake Pads: Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install new anti-rattle clips to the inside ends of the caliper mounting bracket. Install the brake pads to the caliper mounting bracket. Place the new pads in the same orientation as noted during removal.
- Install the brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPERS . Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove the safety stands. Lower the vehicle.
- With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance. Slowly release the brake pedal.
- Wait 15 seconds, then repeat step 3 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
- Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FILLING under BLEEDING, FILLING & FLUSHING BRAKE SYSTEM.
- Burnish the NEW brake pads. See BURNISHING PADS & ROTORS under SERVICING.
- Install the anti-rattle clips to the brake caliper bracket. Install the brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPERS .
- Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket. Place the new pads in the same orientation as noted during removal. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Lower the vehicle.
- With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance. Slowly release the brake pedal.
