Application Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 GMC Sierra, 2010 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2010 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: The striping material highlights vehicle surface imperfections. Eliminate all of the following before applying the stripe or the decal:
  • Dings
  • Rough metal
  • Paint defects
  • Uneven 2-tone paint breaklines
IMPORTANT: Apply stripes and decals in a clean environment where dust and fibers do not interfere with proper adhesion.
  1. Clean the area where you will mount the decal.
    1. Use the suitable solvents flash naptha, or a mixture of 50 percent isopropyl alcohol and 50 percent water.
    2. Dry the area thoroughly with a clean lint free towel.
    3. Repaint the area. Feather the paint in, if the paint is chipped.
  2. Warm the body surface to 21-38°C (70-100°F).

  4. Mount the stripes or the decals that wrap into the body openings or mount on flexible surfaces wet.

Use the following procedure for wet application of stripes and decals:

  1. Using a 24 oz spray bottle add 1-2 drops of unscented dishwashing soap for a wetting agent. If above 80°F you may use 2-3 drops per 24 oz.
  2. Peel the backing away from the decal. Spray the adhesive backing of the decal in hot, humid weather with a mist of the wetting solution.
  3. Use a squeegee, starting at the center of the decal. Squeegee the decal onto the body, removing air bubbles and the wetting solution.
  4. Pull the decal back onto itself in order to remove the premask from the decal.
  5. Squeegee the decal again.
  6. Prick any air bubbles with a pin, if present. Never use a razor or knife as this may cause the cut to get larger over time.
  7. If desired, heat can be applied to the edges of the stripe or decal to assure adhesion. 3 seconds at 60°C (140°F) would be satisfactory.
