Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important:

All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.
DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.

Install a NEW rocker cover gasket (1) into the valve rocker arm cover.

Install the valve rocker arm cover onto the cylinder head.
Install new rocker arm cover grommets, if necessary.
CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Install the rocker arm cover bolts and grommets.
Tighten

Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

Install the vent hose to the valve rocker arm cover.

Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the threads of the bracket bolts.
Install the ignition coils and bracket to the rocker arm cover.
Install the ignition coil bracket studs to the rocker cover.
Tighten

Tighten the ignition coil bracket studs to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

Install the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.
Position the engine harness, if necessary.
Install the harness clips (2).
Connect the main electrical connector (1) feeding the ignition coils.
Install the CPA lock.

Install the oil fill tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
Install the upper transmission fill tube.
Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim .
