Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (w/RPO LY7) or Transmission Replacement (w/RPO LH2) in Automatic Transmission - 5L40-E/5L50-E.
  2. Remove the engine flywheel bolts and the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Removal .
  3. Clean and inspect the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection . If the flywheel teeth are damaged, inspect the starter for proper operation. Replace the starter if you find excessive wear or damage to the starter drive. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (LY7) or Starter Motor Replacement (LH2) in Engine Electrical.
