Diagnostic Aids

The DIC displays dashes (- -) when there is a fault in the class 2 serial data circuit. This occurs only during the following modes:

The compass display and the temperature display still operate normally when there is a fault in the class 2 serial data circuit. In this case refer to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device in Data Link Communications for diagnosis.

1 Did you perform the Driver Information Systems Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Driver Information Systems 
2 Test the IP lamp supply voltage circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 3 
3 Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 4 
4 Test the RAP fuse supply voltage circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 5 
5 Test the ground circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
6 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 7

IMPORTANT: Perform the compass calibration and variance procedure on the replacement DIC.
Replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 8  -
8 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
