Removal Procedure

Important:  When servicing the transfer case, use only hand tools when removing the transfer case fill or drain plugs.

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to TRANSFER CASE SHIELD REPLACEMENT .

   Important:  If the transfer case drain or fill plugs are damaged and need to be replace, use only replacement plugs that are made from aluminum.

3. Remove the transfer case fill plug.

   Important:  When draining the transfer case oil, always the proper container for draining.

4. Remove the transfer case drain plug.
