Installation Procedure

  1. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear shaft.
    NOTE:
  2. Install the intermediate shaft to steering gear pinch bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the intermediate shaft to steering gear pinch bolt to 41 N.m (30 lb ft).

  3. Install the intermediate shaft boot over the intermediate shaft.

    Do not secure the boot to the steering gear.

  4. Install the intermediate shaft (2) to the steering column shaft (1).
  5. Install the intermediate shaft to steering column pinch bolt (3).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the intermediate shaft to steering column pinch bolt to 41 N.m (30 lb ft).

  6. Measure the intermediate shaft angle. The angle must be 38-40 degrees.
  7. Install the intermediate shaft boot to the steering gear.

  8. Install the intermediate shaft boot to cowl mounting bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the intermediate shaft boot to cowl mounting bolts to 2.8 N.m (25 lb ft).

  9. Install the underhood electrical center to cowl.
  10. Install the underhood electrical center mounting bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the underhood electrical center mounting bolts to 5.5 N.m (49 lb in).

  11. Unlock the steering column by removing the J 42640  from the steering column trim cover.
