Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering gear to the vehicle.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the steering gear washers and bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering gear bolts to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).

  3. Install the pitman arm to the steering gear. Refer to STEERING LINKAGE (NON-RACK & PINION) or STEERING LINKAGE (NON-RACK & PINION) in Steering Linkage.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Connect the power steering cooler pipe to the steering gear.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering cooler pipe fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  6. Connect the power brake booster outlet hose to the steering gear.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power brake booster outlet fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  7. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  8. Connect the intermediate shaft to the power steering gear. Install the intermediate shaft bolt to the intermediate shaft coupling.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to the intermediate shaft coupling to 41 N.m (30 lb ft).

  9. Install the lower fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT - LOWER in Engine Cooling.

  10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
