Disabling System (Blazer, Jimmy, S10 Pickup & Sonoma)

WARNING: Regular cab and extra cab pickup models are equipped with ON/OFF switches for passenger side air bags. Turning switch OFF will NOT disable the driver air bag.
  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove key from ignition switch. Remove SIR fuse from instrument panel fuse block. Fuse block is located behind access cover on far left end of instrument panel. Wait one minute.

  2. Zone 1

    To disable inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensors located in SIR Zone 1, raise and support the vehicle. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip from both inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor connectors located on frame crossmember. Disconnect inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor connectors.

  3. Zone 3

    To disable driver side air bag module and coil located in SIR Zone 3, remove left side knee bolster. Remove CPA clip and disconnect driver air bag 2-pin Yellow SIR connector at base of steering column. See Figure.

  4. Zone 5

    To disable passenger side air bag module located in SIR Zone 5, open glove box, lift stop, and allow door to fully open. Remove CPA clip and disconnect passenger air bag 2-pin Yellow SIR connector. Connector is located behind instrument panel support, in left side of glove box opening.

  5. Zone 8

    To disable inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) located in SIR Zone 8, disable Zones 1, 3 & 5. Disconnect Yellow component connectors.
