Removal & Installation (Town Car)

  1. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . The passenger air bag module is mounted in right side of instrument panel, above glove box. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM . Leave negative battery cable disconnected.
  2. Remove audio unit. Remove instrument cluster finish panel. Open glove box. Disconnect glove compartment isolator. Push in on tabs, and rotate glove box downward. Through glove box opening, separate air bag module wiring harness retainers from instrument panel. Remove 2 passenger air bag module bolts through glove box opening.
  3. Remove passenger air bag module by placing one hand in from the glove box opening, and pushing air bag module from instrument panel. Disconnect passenger air bag module electrical connector and remove module from vehicle.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten passenger air bag module fasteners to specification. See AIR BAG MODULE TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS (FORD) . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM .
  5. Check AIR BAG warning light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Reprogram radio presets and reset clock. Repeat SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
