Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Removal

Tools Required
- J 24270 Cylinder Bore Ridge Reamer
- J 42846 Crankshaft Protector Button. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove the cylinder bore ridge as necessary.
- Install the J 42846 onto the front of the crankshaft in order to rotate the crankshaft.
- Rotate the crankshaft until the piston is at the bottom of the stroke (BDC).
- Place a cloth on top of the piston.
- Perform the cutting operation with a J 24270 . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions before using the J 24270 .
- Remove the J 24270 .
- Rotate the crankshaft until the piston is at top dead center (TDC).
- Remove the cloth and the cuttings.
- Repeat the procedure for each piston.
- Remove the connecting rod nuts.
- Remove the connecting rod cap and the connecting rod lower bearing.
- Install rubber fuel line onto the connecting rod bolts to prevent contact with the crankshaft journal.
- Remove the piston, connecting rod, and connecting rod upper bearing.
- Remove the rubber fuel line from the connecting rod bolts.
- Remove the remaining piston and the connecting rod assemblies.
- Remove the J 42846 from the front of the crankshaft.
IMPORTANT:
Do not remove the excessive material from the cylinder bore. Excessive removal of material may require cylinder boring to the next oversize.
IMPORTANT:
Place matching marks or numbers on the connecting rods and the connecting rod caps. The connecting rod caps must be assembled to their original connecting rods.
IMPORTANT:
When connecting rod bearings are removed, NEW bearings must be installed during assembly.
