Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2003 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the park brake actuator lever housing to the backing plate.

  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the backing plate bolts.
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the backing plate bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N.m (100 lb ft).

  5. Install the park brake shoe. Refer toPark Brake Shoe Replacement (Except RPO NYS, 1500HD, 25/35 Series) , Park Brake Shoe Replacement (RPO NYS)  or Park Brake Shoe Replacement (1500HD/25/35 Series) .
  6. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch, 9.5 Inch Axles) or Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) in Rear Drive Axle.
  7. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  8. Install the rotor. Refer toBrake Rotor Replacement - Rear (Except Dual Wheels or NYS) , Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/Dual Wheels) or Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/NYS) in Disc Brakes.
  9. For vehicles without RPO NYS, install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.
  10. For vehicles with RPO NYS, install the rear park brake bracket bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 61 N.m(45 lb ft).

  12. Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
  13. Install the rear cables to the equalizer by pulling down on the intermediate cable and install the rear cables to the equalizer bar.
  14. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Remove the safety stands.
  16. Lower vehicle.
  17. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
