Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) or Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory (5.3L Engine w/RPO HP2) in Engine Mechanical - 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L.
  3. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) or Engine Sight Shield Replacement (6.0L Engine w/RPOs Y91 and Z88) in Engine Mechanical - 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L.
  4. Disconnect the generator electrical connector (3).

  6. Remove the generator cable from the generator, perform the following:
    1. Slide the boot down revealing the terminal stud.
    2. Remove the generator cable nut from the terminal stud.
    3. Remove the generator cable.

  8. Remove the generator bolts.
  9. Remove the generator.
