Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 3:  Inspects the PPS to make sure the correct part number was installed in the vehicle.
  2. 5:  Inspects the SDM to make sure the correct part number was installed in the vehicle.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - SIR? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - SIR 
2 Was the passenger presence system (PPS) replaced? Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4 
Inspect the PPS to make sure that the correct part number was installed in the vehicle.
Was the correct PPS part number installed in the vehicle?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 6 
4 Was the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) replaced? Go to Step 5  Go to Step 6 
Inspect the SDM to make sure that the correct part number was installed in the vehicle.
Was the correct SDM part number installed in the vehicle?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 8

IMPORTANT: The PPS is a calibrated system. The PPS must be rezeroed after replacement.
Replace the PPS. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Passenger Presence System Replacement - Front .Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 7  -

  1. Reconnect all SIR and PPS system components.
  2. Verify that all components, connectors, and connector position assurances (CPA) are properly mounted.
  3. Use the scan tool in order to clear the SIR and PPS DTCs.
  4. Rezero the PPS. Refer to Passenger Presence System Rezeroing Procedure .
  5. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC reset?
Go to Step 8  System OK
8 Replace the SDM. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 9  -

  1. Reconnect all SIR and PPS system components.
  2. Verify that all components, connectors, and CPAs are properly mounted.
  3. Use the scan tool in order to clear the SIR and PPS DTCs.
  4. Rezero the PPS. Refer to Passenger Presence System Rezeroing Procedure .
  5. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC reset?
Go to Step 2  System OK
