Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION .
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE (AUXILIARY BATTERY) or BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE (SINGLE BATTERY) .
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS .
  3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) cluster trim bezel. Refer to BEZEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER .
  4. Remove the driver side knee bolster and deflector. Refer to KNEE BOLSTER REPLACEMENT .

  6. Remove the left and right I/P end trim panels.
  7. Remove the park brake release lever from the I/P. Refer to PARK BRAKE RELEASE HANDLE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT .

  9. Remove the data link connector fastener and position aside.

  11. Remove the left (3) and right (4) air duct.
  12. Remove the I/P assist handle. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ASSIST HANDLE REPLACEMENT .
  13. Remove the upper intermediate steering shaft to lower shaft retaining bolt. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT - UPPER .
  14. Disconnect and reposition the left I/P wiring junction block.
  15. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - WINDSHIELD PILLAR .

  17. Remove the I/P upper trim panel retaining screws.

  19. Lift the trim panel up to disconnect the electrical connector (1) to the ambient light sensor on the underside of the trim panel.

  21. Remove the trim panel from the vehicle.

  23. Remove the I/P upper carrier top bolts (1).

  25. Remove the I/P center support bracket bezel (1).

  27. Remove the I/P center support bracket bolt.

  29. Remove the I/P carrier retaining bolts. The left side is shown, the right side is similar.
  30. Remove the left side door sill plate and cowl trim. Refer to DOOR SILL PLATE REPLACEMENT - FRONT .

  32. Disconnect the clutch pedal engine start switch electrical connector (1).
  33. Push the clutch pedal in and squeeze the pushrod bushing tabs in, in order to release the pushrod bushing from the clutch pedal.
  34. Remove the pushrod from the pedal.
  35. Remove the clutch master cylinder clip from the brake pressure module valve pipe.

  37. Rotate the clutch master cylinder 45 degrees clockwise to the unlocked position.
  38. IMPORTANT: Complete removal of the clutch master cylinder is not required.
  39. Pull the clutch master cylinder out until the pushrod socket is not touching the clutch pedal.

  41. Remove the clutch pedal to clutch pedal bracket bolt.

  43. Remove the clutch pedal to brake module bolts.

  45. Remove the I/P carrier bolts. The left side is shown, the right side is similar.
  46. Allow the instrument panel carrier to move rearward enough to gain access for the clutch pedal assembly removal.
  47. Remove the clutch pedal sub-assembly.
