Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
  2. IMPORTANT: Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.
  3. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement (Coil) or Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement (Coil and Harness Assembly) in SIR.
  4. Remove and discard the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR and J 42137  .

  5. If standard column, remove the following parts from the steering shaft assembly:
    1. The cam orientation plate (4)
    2. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (3)
    3. The upper bearing spring (2)
    4. The thrust washer (1)

  6. If tilt column, remove the following parts from the steering column shaft assembly:
    1. The cam orientation plate (5)
    2. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    3. The upper bearing spring (3)
    4. The upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    5. The inner race (1)
