Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Is DTC P0602 also set? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5.
  3. Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After programming PCM, recheck for DTCs. If DTC P0602 resets, go to next step. If DTC P0602 does not reset, go to step  6.
  4. Ensure that all tool connections are secure. Ensure programming equipment is operating correctly and correct software/calibration package is used. Attempt to program PCM. Recheck for DTCs. If DTC P0602 resets, go to next step. If DTC P0602 does not reset, go to step  6.
  5. Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Turn engine off. Recheck DTCs. If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC resets, go to step  3.
  7. Using scan tool, observe stored information and capture information. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
