  1. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . The side air bag modules are located behind outboard bolster of driver and passenger seat backs. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM . Leave negative battery cable disconnected.
  2. Remove appropriate front seat. Depress clips while lifting up on headrest and remove headrest from seat back. Using screwdriver, release retainer and remove headrest guide tubes from seat back. Fold seat back forward. Release plastic retaining strip at base of seat back.
  3. Release plastic retaining strips from left and right side of back rest. Remove 2 hog rings from left and right side of seat frame base. Lift seat back release handle and remove cables. Remove outer cable from seat back release handle and remove handle.
  4. Remove seat back cover and pad assembly. Depress retaining tang on each side of side air bag module connector and disconnect connector. Remove 2 nuts and side air bag module.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten side air bag module nuts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 N.m). Use hog ring pliers to close hog rings. Hog rings should be closed to overlap by 0.31" (8 mm). Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM .
  6. Check AIR BAG warning light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Reprogram radio presets and reset clock. Repeat SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
