Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the oil deflector into the inner pinion cup bore.

  2. Install the inner pinion bearing cup using the J 45704  (2) and the J 8092  (1).

  3. Install the outer pinion bearing cup using the J 7818  (2) and the J 8092  (1).
  4. Determine the pinion position shim thickness and the pinion preload shim thickness for the drive pinion. Refer to PINION DEPTH ADJUSTMENT (8.6 INCH, 9.5 INCH AXLES)  or PINION DEPTH ADJUSTMENT (9.75 INCH AXLE)  or PINION DEPTH ADJUSTMENT (10.5 INCH AXLE)  .
  5. Install the differential assembly. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT (8.6 INCH, 9.5 INCH AXLES)  or DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT (9.75 INCH AXLE)  or DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT (10.5 INCH AXLE)  .

  6. Fill the axle with lubricant. Use the proper fluid. Refer to LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT - REAR DRIVE AXLE (8.6 INCH AXLE)  or LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT - REAR DRIVE AXLE (9.5, 10.5 INCH AXLE)  or LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT - REAR DRIVE AXLE (9.75 INCH AXLE)  .
  7. Lower the vehicle.
