Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Determine the shim thickness and preload for the differential assembly. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT (8.6 INCH AXLE) or DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT (9.5 INCH AXLE) or DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT (9.75 INCH AXLE) or DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT (10.5 INCH AXLE) .
- Install the differential side bearing by doing the following:
- In order to protect the differential case, install the J 8107-3 in the case on the side opposite of the bearing installation.
- Install the inboard shims.
- Install the differential side bearing.
- Install the J 24430 or the J 45900 (2) and the J 8092 (1) over the differential side bearing.
- Drive the differential side bearing into position using the J 24430 or the J 45900 and the J 8092 .
- Install the differential assembly. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT (8.6 INCH, 9.5 INCH AXLES) or DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT (9.75 INCH AXLE) or DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT (10.5 INCH AXLE) .
- Fill the axle with lubricant. Use the proper fluid. Refer to LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT - REAR DRIVE AXLE (8.6 INCH AXLE) or LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT - REAR DRIVE AXLE (9.5, 10.5 INCH AXLE) or LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT - REAR DRIVE AXLE (9.75 INCH AXLE) .
- Lower the vehicle.
