Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Start the engine and allow it to run for 2 minutes. Verify the engine is at normal operating temperature and in Closed Loop. Command ON the AIR pump with the scan tool. Does the short term FT (applicable bank) indicate a change of more than 16% within 30 seconds? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 4.
- The DTC is intermittent. Are any additional DTCs stored? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Check the applicable bank AIR system for the following:
- Hoses/pipes for proper connections
- Secure hose clamps
- Kinks, holes, or pinched hoses/pipes
- Loose fittings
- Components with evidence of heat damage
Did you find a problem? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to next step.
- Disconnect the AIR hose at the applicable bank check valve AIR pump side. Start the engine and allow to idle. Command ON the AIR pump with the scan tool. Does air flow from the AIR hose? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7.
- Check for restrictions or leaks in the check valve and the AIR pipe on the applicable bank. Did you find a problem? If yes, go to step 8. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Check for restrictions or leaks in the applicable bank AIR hose between the check valve and the point where the system branches to each bank. Go to next step.
- Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to next step.
- Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn OFF the ignition. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2.
- Observe the stored information, Capture Info with a scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
