Disabling System (Explorer & Mountaineer)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 114 other vehicles, including the 2000 Saturn SW2, 2000 Saturn SL2, 2000 Saturn SL1, 2000 Saturn SL, and 2000 Saturn SC2. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Record preset radio frequencies for reprogramming, if equipped. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
- Remove driver's air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulator to clockspring connector at top of steering column, in place of air bag. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
- Remove glove box. Disconnect passenger air bag connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to passenger's air bag vehicle harness connector, in place of air bag. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . For models equipped with side air bags, go to next step.
- Disconnect driver's side air bag connector, located under driver's seat. Connect side air bag simulator, in place of air bag. Repeat procedure for passenger side air bag. Go to next step. Connect negative battery cable.
WARNING:
If vehicle is equipped with side air bags, manufacturer recommends removing front seats (with side air bag modules) before performing electrical diagnosis on air bag system. Seats may be left in vehicle if diagnostics are NOT being performed on side air bag system and air bag simulator is installed in place of side air bag harness.
