Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Draining & Filling Cooling System .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Remove the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper .
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6. Remove the fan and fan blade clutch assembly. Refer to Fan Replacement .
  7. Remove the coolant pump pulley bolts and the pulley.

  8. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose and clamps.
  9. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet .

  10. Remove the four coolant pump bolts.
  11. Remove the coolant pump.
  12. Remove the gaskets.

    Important:  Make sure all of the gasket mating surfaces are free of burrs or other imperfections.

  13. Inspect all of the parts. Replace the parts as necessary.
