Park Brake System Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The park brake must be adjusted any time the park brake cables are replaced, disconnected, or the park brake holding ability is inadequate.

The park brake system consists of a pedal/lever assembly, a series of cables, actuator levers, an equalizer, and a release cable.

The park brake is not designed for use in place of service brakes. It should be applied only after the vehicle comes to a complete stop, except in an emergency.

Before working on the park brake system, make sure the service brakes are in good working order and adjusted properly.
