Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important:  When installing the transfer case input shaft seal, make sure that the part numbers on the seal are facing outward (toward the technician). The transfer case input shaft seal should be even with the surface of the transfer case after installation.

  1. Position the transfer case input seal on the input shaft.
  2. Using the J 42738  , install the transfer case input shaft seal.

  4. Install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  5. Inspect the transfer case fluid level. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
