Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important:  DO NOT use any type of sealant or adhesive on the transfer case adapter seal.

  1. Install the new transfer case adapter seal.
  2. Install the transfer case adapter.
  3. Install the transfer case adapter mounting bolts. Tighten the transfer case adapter mounting bolts to 55 N.m (40 lb ft).
  4. Install the transmission mount assembly.

    Important:  Do not reuse the old gasket if it is damaged, replaced it. DO NOT use any type of sealer in place of the gasket.

  5. Install the new transfer case gasket.
  6. Install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  7. Lower the vehicle.
