Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important:  The multifunction switch electrical contact must rest on the cancelling cam assembly.

  1. Install the multifunction switch as follows:
    1. Use a small blade screwdriver in order to compress the electrical contact.
    2. Move the multifunction switch into position.
  2. Install the multifunction switch mounting screws. Tighten the multifunction switch mounting screws to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
  3. Connect the multifunction switch electrical connectors (2) to the steering column electrical connector (1).
  4. Connect the steering column electrical connector to the instrument panel wire harness.
  5. Install the wire harness straps to the steering column wire harness.
  6. Install the steering column wire harness to the wiring harness strap.
  7. Install the upper steering column trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle  .
  8. Enable the SIR System. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
