Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the steering gear to the vehicle.
  2. Install the steering gear washers and bolts. Tighten the power steering gear bolts to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).
  3. Install the pitman arm to the steering gear. Refer PITMAN ARM REPLACEMENT (RWD) or PITMAN ARM REPLACEMENT (AWD) .
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Connect the power steering cooler pipe to the steering gear. Tighten the power steering cooler pipe fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
  6. Connect the power brake booster outlet hose to the steering gear. Tighten the power brake booster outlet fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
  7. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  8. Connect the intermediate shaft to the power steering gear.
  9. Install the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to the intermediate shaft coupling. Tighten the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to the intermediate shaft coupling to 41 N.m (30 lb ft).
  10. Install the lower fan shroud.
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System  .
