Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the pitman arm. Refer to PITMAN ARM REPLACEMENT (RWD) or PITMAN ARM REPLACEMENT (AWD) .
  2. Remove the snap ring (1) using J 4245  .

  3. Remove the following components from the power steering gear (1):
    1. The dust seal (5)
    2. The return ring (4)
    3. The washer (3)
    4. The pitman shaft oil seal (2)
  4. Inspect the pitman shaft surface for roughness or pitting. Replace the pitman shaft if the shaft is pitted.
  5. Clean the pitman shaft and seal areas using a wire brush.
