Removal Procedure

  1. Remove lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement - Lower 
  2. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT in Engine Exhaust.
  3. Raise the support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
  4. Remove catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT in Engine Exhaust.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Remove the rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement  .
  7. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
  8. Remove the cylinder head.
  9. If replacing cylinder head, remove the following components:
  10. Clean the mating surfaces on the following items:
    • The cylinder head
    • The cylinder block
    • The intake manifold
  11. Clean the cylinder block bolt threads.
  12. Clean the cylinder head bolts.
