Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The inertial weight section of the balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct removal procedure must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the balancer.
  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement  .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the right front fender liner. Refer to FRONT FENDER LINER REPLACEMENT in Body Front End.
  5. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
  6. Remove the balancer retaining bolt. Use an assistant to keep the flywheel from turning.
  7. Install J24420-C  on the balancer.
  8. Turn the puller screw.
  9. Remove the balancer.
