Park/Neutral Position Switch: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Savana Special, 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2002 GMC Savana, 2002 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2002 Chevrolet Cutaway.   1. Install the switch onto the manual shaft by aligning the switch hub flats with the manual shaft flats.
  2. Slide the switch onto the transmission manual shaft until the switch mounting bracket contacts the mounting bosses on the transmission.
  3. Install the switch to the transmission with 2 bolts. Do not tighten the bolts.
  4. Position the PNP Switch Alignment Tool (J 41364-A) onto the PNP switch. Ensure the two slots on the switch where the manual shaft is inserted are lined up with the lower two tabs on the tool. See Fig 1 .
  5. Rotate the tool until the upper locator pin on the tool is lined up with the slot on the top of the switch. Tighten the bolts securing the switch to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Remove the PNP switch alignment tool from the switch.
  7. Install the wiring harness connector at the vehicle harness.
  8. Install the transmission control lever to the manual shaft with the nut. Tighten the control lever nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Check the switch for proper operation. The engine must start in the Park or Neutral positions only.
  11. If the switch is not operating correctly, see appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING.
