Installation (Upper Left)

  1. If removed, install PCV diaphragm, spring, cover, and screws. If removed, install NEW grommets for injector line fittings.
  2. Apply 1/8" (2-3 mm) wide to 1/16" (0.5-1.5 mm) high bead of Sealant (GM 97720043) to upper valve rocker arm cover sealing surface. Apply a bead of sealant to area under injector wire harness on lower valve rocker arm cover.
  3. Install upper valve rocker arm cover. Install upper valve rocker arm cover bolts. Use bolt tightening sequence. Bolts No. 1 and 2 are used to position valve rocker arm cover. Tighten bolts to 71 INCH lbs. (8 N.m) in sequence shown. See Figure. Install fuel injector lines.
  4. Connect PCV hose to upper valve rocker arm cover. Install bolts retaining fuel injection control module wiring harness bracket. Install bolts retaining fuel injection control module wiring harness connectors.
  5. Connect fuel injection control module wiring harness connectors. Install fuel injection control module wiring harness to retainer. Install water outlet tube. Install glow plug relay bracket. Install auxiliary generator, if equipped.
  6. Connect fuel hoses. Push in until locked. Install nut retaining fuel hose bracket to valve rocker arm cover. Position generator positive cable. Install generator positive cable in clip on engine front cover. Install generator positive cable and retaining nut to generator.
  7. Install battery positive cable junction block bracket and bolt to power steering pump. Install charged air cooler inlet duct to turbocharger charge air cooler outlet. Align marks on hose and intake manifold duct. Install upper intake manifold sight shield. Fill engine coolant. See DRAINING & REFILLING COOLING SYSTEM . Connect battery negative cable.
