Wiper Always On - Rear

Wiper Always On - Rear

Schematic Reference:  Wiper/Washer System Schematics  
1 Did you review the Rear Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Wiper/Washer Systems

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
Is the rear wiper always on?
Go to Step 3  Go to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor connector.
  2. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the rear wiper switch signal circuit terminal in the rear wiper motor harness connector to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a test lamp from the rear washer pump control circuit terminal in the rear wiper motor harness connector to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 9 
5 Test the rear wiper switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and WIRING REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 7 
6 Test the rear washer pump control circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and WIRING REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 7 
7 Inspect for poor connections at the rear wiper/washer switch. Refer to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS and to CONNECTOR REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 8 
8 Replace the rear wiper/washer switch. Refer to ACCESSORY SWITCH REPLACEMENT .
Is the repair complete?
Go to Step 11  -
9 Inspect for poor connections at the rear wiper motor. Refer to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS and to CONNECTOR REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 10 
10 Replace the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Replacement - Rear .
Is the repair complete?
Go to Step 11  -
11 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
