Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Repair any damage done to the pillar during the drilling or the removal.
  2. Position the service hinge within the scribe marks on the pillar.

  4. Center punch each bolt location on the pillar according to the service hinge.

  6. Drill a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole at each punch location.

  8. Drill a 13 mm (1/2 in) hole at the pilot locations.
  9. Clean and prepare all bare metal surfaces.
  10. IMPORTANT: Prior to refinishing, refer to GM 4901MD-99 Refinish Manual for recommended products. Do not combine paint systems. Refer to paint manufacturer's recommendations.
  11. Apply an approved anti-corrosion primer.

  13. Apply full-body caulk to the entire hinge mounting surface.

  15. Align the hinge with the holes in the pillar.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  17. Install the hinge fasteners.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  19. Position the rear body opening lower filler and mig weld in place at factory weld locations.
  20. Clean and prepare all weld surfaces.
  21. Refinish the metal surfaces as necessary.
  22. Align and install all of the related panels and the components.
