Park/Neutral Position Switch: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Shift the transmission into Neutral.
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Remove the nut securing the transmission control lever to the manual shaft.
  5. Remove the transmission control lever from the manual shaft.
  6. NOTE: Because of the PNP switch lead connector breaking when disconnected, disconnect the harness connector at a point near the vehicle harness, not at the park/neutral position switch lead.
  7. Disconnect the wiring harness connector at the wiring harness.
  8. Remove 2 bolts securing the PNP switch to the transmission.
  9. Remove the PNP switch from the manual shaft.
  10. If the PNP switch did not slide off the manual shaft, file the outer edge of the manual shaft to remove any burrs.
