Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the four nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold rear pipe.
    CAUTION: Do not over-flex or damage the flex decoupler joint when moving the flex decoupler joint from normal mounting position. The flex decoupler joint will flex a maximum of six degrees which is equivalent to the pipes connected at the joint which move 1 inch for each foot length of pipe. A three foot pipe would move a maximum of three inches.

  3. Position the exhaust system rearward, enough to allow the studs located in the front of the catalytic converter to clear the exhaust manifold rear pipe.
  4. Remove the catalytic converter gasket. Do not reuse the gasket.
  5. Remove the two bolts (2) attaching the exhaust manifold rear pipe to the right exhaust manifold.
  6. Remove the two bolts (3) securing the exhaust manifold rear pipe to the exhaust manifold front pipe.
  7. Remove the exhaust manifold rear pipe and the gasket (1). Do not reuse the gasket.
  8. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe seal (4) from the exhaust manifold front pipe. Do not reuse the seal.
  9. Remove the exhaust manifold flange seal retainer (5).
