Starter Motor Installation

  1. If installing a NEW starter, transfer the cables from the old starter.
  2. Install the positive battery cable to the starter motor stud.
    CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the starter motor stud nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the starter motor stud nut to 9.5 N.m (84 in lbs).

  4. Install the solenoid wiring harness to the starter solenoid stud.
  5. Install the starter solenoid stud nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the starter solenoid stud nut to 3.4 N.m (30 in lbs).

  6. Place the starter motor in position in the engine valley.

  7. Install the two starter motor retaining bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the starter motor retaining bolts to 30 N.m (22 ft lbs).

  8. Install the knock sensor (1).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the knock sensor (1) to 20 N.m (15 ft lbs).

  9. Connect the knock sensor wire lead.
