Visual Inspection Procedure

Inspect the camshaft sprocket locating pin (2) for damage or wear.
Inspect the threads (3) for the camshaft sprocket bolt.
Inspect the camshaft lobes (1) and journals (4) for the following conditions:
- Excessive scoring or pitting
- Discoloration from overheating
- Deformation from excessive wear, especially the camshaft lobes

Inspect the left intake camshaft for the following additional conditions:
- Excessive wear on the sealing surface (1) for the camshaft seal
- Damage to the threads (2) for the water pump drive belt pulley bolt
If any of the above conditions exist on the camshaft, replace the camshaft.
