Primary Camshaft Drive Chain Removal

  1. Remove the front engine lift bracket bolts.
  2. Remove the front engine lift bracket.

  3. Remove the camshaft position sensor bolt.
  4. Remove the camshaft position sensor.
  5. Remove and discard the camshaft position sensor O-ring.

  6. Remove the four chain guide access plugs located in the cylinder heads. Note the O-ring seal on each access plug.

  7. Loosen both primary camshaft drive chain tensioner bolts.
  8. Remove the lower primary camshaft drive chain tensioner bolt allowing the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner to swing downward and expand. This will release tension on the primary camshaft drive chain.
  9. Remove the upper primary camshaft drive chain tensioner bolt.
  10. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner (1).

  11. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner shoe bolt.
  12. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner shoe (1) by pushing the guide downward slightly and then pulling it up through the cylinder head.
  13. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain from the RH camshaft sprocket and allow the chain to fall into the oil pump area of the cylinder block.

  14. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain.

  15. Loosen the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner oil tube bolts.
  16. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner oil tube (1).
