J 42041 Crankshaft Balancer and Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer
Important: Do not lubricate the crankshaft front oil seal or crankshaft balancer sealing surfaces. The crankshaft balancer is installed into a dry seal.
- Lubricate the crankshaft front oil seal bore of the engine front cover housing with lubricant GM P/N US 12345501, Canada 992704, or equivalent.
- Remove the protective sleeve from the new crankshaft front oil seal.
- Place the crankshaft front oil seal (1) onto the mandrel (J 42041-1) of the J 42041.
- Thread the J 42041 in the crankshaft. Make sure you engage at least ten threads of the J 42041 before pressing the crankshaft front oil seal in place.
- Push the crankshaft front oil seal into position by tightening the nut on the J 42041
until the mandrel bottoms out on the crankshaft sprocket.
Important: The crankshaft front oil seal should NOT be flush with the engine front cover.
- Check the installed depth (1) of the crankshaft front oil seal. The crankshaft front oil seal should protrude from the engine front cover about 1-2 mm (0.039-0078 in).
