Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Column Shift Snap On Shrouds)  or Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Floor Shift)  .

    Important:  The abrasion sleeve located on the steering column wire harness assembly must be reinstalled. Make note of what connector is coming out of the abrasion sleeve for installation purposes.

  3. Remove the wire harness assembly (1) from the wire harness strap (2).

  5. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector from the turn signal switch assembly connector.
  6. Remove the retaining ring (3) from the steering column shaft assembly by using snap ring pliers.
  7. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (2) from the steering column shaft assembly.
  8. Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering column shaft assembly.
