Linear Shift Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

WARNING: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
  • Air bag deployment
  • Personal injury
  • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
  • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
  • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control. Refer to Linear Shift Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  3. Remove the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever - Disassemble - Off Vehicle 
  4. The steering column lock cylinder set should be in the OFF-LOCK position.
  5. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly and push against the locking tab to remove the park lock cable assembly (1).

  6. Disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock control connector from the park position switch assembly.
  7. Slide the park position switch assembly off of the linear shift assembly.

  8. Use a small screwdriver to gently pry the automatic transmission shift lock control from the steering column jacket assembly.

  9. To break the linear shift assembly down proceed to step  11.
  10. Remove the 3 TORX® screws from the linear shift assembly.
  11. Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column support assembly.

  12. Remove the 2 hexagon flange head bolts (2).
  13. Remove the ball and actuator assembly (1).
  14. Remove the cable shift cam assembly (3).

  15. Remove the shift actuator shaft.

  16. Remove the 2 actuator bushings.

  17. Remove the 3 oval head screws (2) from the shift lever gate (3).
  18. Remove the shift lever gate (3) from the gear shift lever assembly support bracket (1).
