Park Brake Pedal Assembly: Removal

  1. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Remove the left carpet retainer. Position the carpet aside.
  2. Remove the PCM and bracket. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - ALERO, GRAND AM & MALIBU article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Remove the park brake pedal assembly nuts. Remove the park brake pedal assembly.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connection from the pedal assembly. Remove the park brake cable from the pedal attachment point. Using the Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J-37043) cable release tool, remove the cable from the park brake pedal at attachment point.
