Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Buick Regal, 2003 Buick Century, 2002 Buick Regal, and 2002 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Did you perform the diagnostic system check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Inspect the brake fluid level. Is the brake fluid level okay? If so, go to next step. If not, go to BRAKE FLUID LOSS  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  3. Install a scan tool. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE WARNING LAMP parameter in the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE WARNING LAMP parameter is Off? If so, check for an intermittent condition. If not, go to next step.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE WARNING LAMP parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE WARNING LAMP parameter is Off? If so, go to step  6 . If not, go to next step.
  5. Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  10 . If not, go to step  7 .
  6. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  10 . If not, go to step  8 .
  7. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  10 . If not, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  10. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  2 .
