Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L36) or Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L67)
- Remove the air cleaner intake duct.
- Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (L36) or Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (L67)
- Remove the right and left engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right or Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left
- Rotate the engine for access. Refer to Rotating the Engine for Service Access
- Remove the right spark plug wires from the right spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS
- Remove the EVAP purge solenoid and the EVAP purge solenoid brace. Refer to EVAP CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID
- Remove the right engine lift bracket nut and the bolt.
- Remove the right engine lift bracket.
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts.
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket.
- Remove the right valve rocker arm cover bolts.
Important: If the valve rocker arm cover adheres to the cylinder head, remove the valve rocker arm cover by bumping the end of the valve rocker arm cover with the palm of your hand or a soft rubber mallet.
- Remove the right valve rocker arm cover.
- Remove the right valve rocker arm cover gasket.
- Clean the valve rocker arm cover mating surfaces.
- Clean the valve rocker arm cover bolts of all thread locking adhesive.
