Balance Shaft Drive Chain And TENSIONER (Unit Repair): Installation

IMPORTANT:  If balance shafts are not properly timed to engine, the engine may vibrate and make noise.

  1. Install upper balance shaft chain guide.

    Torque: 

    Balance Shaft Chain Guide (Upper) Bolts: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)

  2. Install small balance shaft chain guide.
  3. Tighten balance shaft chain guide bolts.

    Torque: 

    Balance Shaft Chain Guide (Fixed) Bolts: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)

  4. Install adjustable balance shaft drive chain guide.

    Torque: 

    Balance Shaft Chain Guide (Adjustable) Bolt: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)

  5. Turn tensioner plunger 90° in its bore and compress plunger until a paper clip can be inserted through the hole in plunger body and into the hole in tensioner plunger.
  6. Install balance shaft drive chain tensioner.
  7. Tighten balance shaft drive chain tensioner bolts.

    Torque: 

    Balance Shaft Chain Tensioner Bolts: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs) 

  8. Remove paper clip from balance shaft drive chain tensioner.
