Side AIR Bag & Seat Belt Pretensioner

  1. Before deploying air bag and pretensioner, inspect operating condition of Deployment Tool (49 H066 002). See INSPECTING DEPLOYMENT TOOL  under DISPOSAL PROCEDURES. Ensure vehicle is outside and away from other vehicles and people. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Disconnect appropriate side air bag module/seat belt pretensioner connector, located under front seat. Connect Adapter Harness (49 B066 004) connector to side air bag module/seat belt pretensioner connector. See Fig 1 . Connect adapter harness to deployment tool. See Figure . Close all doors and windows. Connect Red clip of deployment tool to positive battery terminal and Black clip of deployment tool to negative battery terminal. Verify deployment tool Red light is on.
  3. Ensure all persons are at least 20 feet (6 m) from vehicle. Press deployment tool activation switch to deploy air bag and pretensioner. Because of heat generated from deployment, wait at least 15 minutes before handling deployed air bag module and pretensioner.
